Extensive nonadditive entropy in quantum spin chains
We present details on a physical realization, in a many-body Hamiltonian system, of the abstract probabilistic structure recently exhibited by Gell-Mann, Sato and one of us (C.T.), that the nonadditive entropy Sq = k[1−Trρ̂q]/[q− 1] (ρ̂ ≡ density matrix; S1 = −kTrρ̂ ln ρ̂) can conform, for an anomalous value of q (i.e., q 6= 1), to the classical thermodynamical requirement for the entropy to be ext...
متن کاملRandom Spin-1 Quantum Chains
We study disordered spin-1 quantum chains with random exchange and biquadratic interactions using a real space renormalization group approach. We find that the dimerized phase of the pure biquadratic model is unstable and gives rise to a random singlet phase in the presence of weak disorder. In the Haldane region of the phase diagram we obtain a quite different behavior.
متن کاملEntanglement entropy of aperiodic quantum spin chains
We study the entanglement entropy of blocks of contiguous spins in non-periodic (quasi-periodic or more generally aperiodic) critical Heisenberg, XX and quantum Ising spin chains, e.g. in Fibonacci chains. For marginal and relevant aperiodic modulations, the entanglement entropy is found to be a logarithmic function of the block size with log-periodic oscillations. The effective central charge,...
متن کاملDensity Profiles in Random Quantum Spin Chains
We consider random transverse-field Ising spin chains and study the magnetization and the energydensity profiles by numerically exact calculations in rather large finite systems (L # 128). Using different boundary conditions (free, fixed, and mixed) the numerical data collapse to scaling functions, which are very accurately described by simple analytic expressions. The average magnetization pro...
متن کاملMagnetocaloric effect in quantum spin-s chains
We compute the entropy of antiferromagnetic quantum spin-s chains in an external magnetic field using exact diagonalization and Quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The magnetocaloric effect, i.e., temperature variations during adiabatic field changes, can be derived from the isentropes. First, we focus on the example of the spin-s = 1 chain and show that one can cool by closing the Haldane gap wit...
